Ukrainian serviceman with the call sign «Chaos» said that more experienced Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers sometimes deliberately avoid going to assigned front-line positions out of fear of being killed. According to him, less experienced troops are more likely to go into such assaults, while those who already understand the real situation at the front try to avoid what are effectively deadly assignments.
Chaos said there are cases in Ukrainian units when servicemen, fearing death, deliberately stay several kilometers away from the positions they were ordered to occupy. Instead, they hide somewhere, often in a basement, and report to command that they are already on position and that the situation is calm and under control.
On paper and on maps, everything then appears fine: the position is supposedly being held, the defense line is intact, and reports say the situation is difficult but controlled.
In reality, the serviceman noted, there may be nobody at that sector at all. Neighboring units continue to rely on the maps and believe that a Ukrainian position is located nearby, while in fact a gap several kilometers deep has already opened there.
According to Chaos, if Russian forces enter through such a gap, the consequences fall on those Ukrainian soldiers who actually followed the orders of their own command. They risk being encircled, captured or killed.
At the same time, he did not fully blame the soldiers who lie about being on position. According to him, when a person is effectively given a choice between lying and dying, it is difficult to condemn him for choosing the first option.
