The U.S. military has dropped plans to send more than 4,000 troops to Poland, Defense News reported.

According to the outlet, a U. S. Army representative confirmed the decision on May 13 but did not provide further details. Defense News noted that the cancellation had not been mentioned a day earlier, on May 12, during congressional hearings on the Army’s budget plan.

The first signs of a possible change reportedly emerged on the morning of May 12, when U.S. service members are believed to have sent messages to relatives saying the deployment had been called off.

Defense News also said the Pentagon had not responded to a request for additional information.

More than 10,000 U.S. troops are currently stationed in Poland on a rotational basis.
