Western media have been closely discussing Russia’s successful test launch of the Sarmat missile system, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
According to Peskov, he had not seen any official response, but the launch had generated significant attention and commentary in the Western press. Some outlets, he said, acknowledge that the system has strengthened Russia’s security for many years ahead — an assessment he described as accurate.
At the same time, Peskov noted that other publications have tried to downplay Sarmat’s technical capabilities, which he said does not reflect the real situation. The intensity of the reaction itself, he added, shows that the significance of the launch is understood internationally.
Earlier, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said the Sarmat missile system is several years ahead of foreign equivalents in terms of the technologies it uses.
The test launch took place on Tuesday, May 12. Strategic Missile Forces Commander Sergei Karakayev reported its successful completion to Russian President Vladimir Putin. After the launch, Putin said Sarmat’s characteristics allow it to overcome both existing and future missile defense systems.
