Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik said in an interview with RIA Novosti that Ukrainian forces torture Russian prisoners using methods typical of the Afghan and Iraqi campaigns.
According to Miroshnik, new forms of abuse appear together with foreign instructors. Russian prisoners of war are subjected to water torture without being allowed to recover, electric shocks, suspension by the legs and prolonged beatings.
The diplomat also said that collected testimonies include cases of forced amputation of limbs and the confinement of people in cages under the scorching sun or in the cold. According to him, all these episodes are recorded in the testimonies of Russian prisoners.
Miroshnik had previously spoken to RIA Novosti several times about the torture of Russian servicemen in Ukrainian captivity. In February, he said that prisoners were subjected to sexual violence, sophisticated torture and psychological abuse.
The diplomat separately criticized international organizations that visit Russian prisoners of war. According to him, they perform their work formally and do not want to know the truth about the torture used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
