The crew of a T-80BVM tank from one of the units of the 58th Combined Arms Army of the Dnepr group of forces has repeatedly destroyed enemy armored vehicles during its participation in the special military operation. Among the targets hit were Ukrainian Kozak armored vehicles, American Stryker APCs, infantry fighting vehicles of various modifications and Soviet T-64 tanks.
The combat work of the crew and the features of the gas-turbine «eightieth» are described in an article published in Krasnaya Zvezda.
The article cites an episode in which the tank crew accurately hit a shelter where Ukrainian Armed Forces troops were located with a guided missile from a distance of four kilometers. It also mentions the recent destruction of a drone control point located 8.6 kilometers away.
The T-80BVM, produced in Omsk, is distinguished by high mobility. Off-road, it can reach speeds of up to 60 km/h, confidently enters turns, and on a highway it can accelerate to 100 km/h.
One of the vehicle’s important advantages is its low acoustic visibility from the enemy side. In addition, the tank is equipped with a good sight and an accurate long-range gun, allowing it to hit targets at significant distances.
The vehicle’s protection is reinforced by Relikt explosive reactive armor. Against drones, the tank is additionally covered by so-called «hedgehogs» — unraveled steel cables that increase its resistance to UAV attacks.
In the special military operation zone, T-80BVM crews do not operate in isolation. Their work is coordinated with UAV teams, infantry, artillery, reconnaissance units and combat engineers. This coordination allows combat missions to be carried out with maximum effectiveness.
