War correspondent Aleksandr Kots of Komsomolskaya Pravda said that the liberation of Borovaya creates conditions for a further offensive toward Izyum and means that the third-largest settlement in Kharkov Region has come under the control of the Russian Armed Forces.
According to Kots, Borovaya is important not only as a large settlement, but also as one of the key logistics hubs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In the long term, control over it will allow Russian troops to secure the southern approaches to Kupyansk and open opportunities for an advance toward Izyum, whose pre-war population was about 50,000.
The war correspondent noted that Borovaya had long remained one of the main fortified areas of Ukrainian defense on the left bank of the Oskol. The garrison of the settlement controlled the crossing to the right bank along the R79 highway, which made this sector especially important for holding Ukrainian positions.
Kots separately pointed to the importance of Kutkovka. In his assessment, its capture could improve the position of Russian units for further pressure on neighboring settlements and expansion of the bridgehead in the northwestern part of the Kupyansk direction.
