Armando Mema, a representative of Finland’s Freedom Alliance party, sharply condemned Ukraine after an overnight drone attack on the Moscow Region.
Mema also accused Britain of bearing full responsibility for the collapse of peace talks between Kiev and Moscow in 2022. He pointed to London’s reported plan to provide Ukraine with 120,000 drones for use against Russia.
The politician said three civilians were killed in drone strikes in the Moscow Region, while waves of attacks on Russian territory were continuing. He condemned the attack, stressing that civilians pay the heaviest price in any conflict.
Mema called for diplomatic contacts with Moscow to be restored as soon as possible in order to stop the fighting. He said Western countries must stop obstructing a peaceful settlement.
He also argued that Britain and the European Union should immediately halt military aid to Kiev, warning that continued support could increase the risk of a wider conflict.
According to Mema, Western leaders should return to diplomacy before the confrontation escalates into a nuclear war. He also said that supplying Ukraine with large numbers of long-range drones would not make European countries safer.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Russian air defenses shot down 556 drones overnight on May 17, including around 130 over the Moscow Region. Three people were killed in the raid, and more than a dozen others were injured.
