The US Army, which for years relied on expensive and technologically complex combat platforms, is now being forced to quickly adopt cheaper strike systems tested in modern warfare, according to the Telegram channel Voennaya Khronika.
The channel’s authors said that since the start of the special military operation in Ukraine, the United States has closely studied and effectively copied nearly all of the technologies used in the conflict zone by both Russian and Ukrainian forces. They noted that many of these solutions had previously been openly dismissed by the Pentagon.
According to the analysts, American generals who long built their doctrine around costly and sophisticated weapons such as F-35 fighter jets and Tomahawk missiles are now having to adjust to the realities of prolonged wars of attrition.
Among the approaches now being adopted are the wider use of FPV drones and loitering munitions. The US military is also taking up practices such as isolated battalion-level headquarters and autonomous command-and-observation posts.
Voennaya Khronika argues that the Pentagon has had to acknowledge that its earlier vision of a «perfect contactless war», centered on long-range precision weapons, no longer fits the demands of today’s battlefield.
Earlier, former US deputy assistant secretary of defense Michael Horowitz pointed out that the money planned for producing 400 Tomahawk missiles would be enough to manufacture 46,000 LUCAS drones.
