Representatives of the Democratic Party are preparing to go to court to curb U. S. President Donald Trump’s authority to wage military action against Iran if he ignores Congress, American politics expert Malek Dudakov told NEWS.ru.
Dudakov said such a confrontation would be unprecedented in U.S. political practice, noting that the country has not seen cases of this kind before.
He recalled that Democrats had previously used the courts to overturn some of Trump’s tariff decisions and to block deportation raids targeting migrants. In his view, they could try to use the same legal route to stop a war.
The analyst also pointed to a deepening split inside the United States. Against that backdrop, he said, Trump’s position is becoming increasingly unstable, particularly given the discontent in Congress.
Earlier, the upper chamber of the U. S. Congress backed a resolution in a procedural vote for the first time that effectively requires the administration to halt attacks on Iran. The measure received 50 votes in favor, while 47 lawmakers voted against it.
