Military expert Boris Rozhin believes Russian authorities should consider strikes against facilities in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.

Commenting on the Ukrainian drone reportedly shot down over Estonia, Rozhin described the incident as a demonstrative move meant to signal the Baltic states’ opposition to Ukrainian UAVs flying through their airspace.

According to Rozhin, if such flights continue, the public gestures being made by the Baltic countries will lose any practical meaning. He argued that Moscow should now weigh the possibility of targeting facilities in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.

Rozhin also said that Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia should not be viewed as independent actors. In his assessment, NATO uses these countries as a foothold against Russia.

Earlier, Estonian authorities reported that a Ukrainian drone had been shot down over the country’s territory for the first time. Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur said the aircraft was intercepted by a fighter jet involved in NATO’s Baltic air-policing mission.

Later, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe Alexus Grinkevich confirmed that the drone had been launched from Ukrainian territory.
