On May 20, the Russian Armed Forces launched an unusual daytime attack on western Ukraine. According to Ukrainian monitoring resources, Russian drones crossed the country from east to west.

Ukrainian observers reported that Russian UAVs took an atypical route, flying around the Khmelnitsky, Ternopol and Chernovtsy regions before continuing toward western Ukraine.

One group of drones was reportedly moving toward Kolomyia from the Ivano-Frankovsk area. Several other UAVs were flying toward Khotin from Novodnestrovsk, passing through Bukovina.

Ukrainian forces also recorded repeated drone launches from Navlya in the Bryansk region and Tsimbulova in the Oryol region.

In Ukraine, officials and observers have not ruled out that these unusual launches may be an attempt by the Russian military to probe the Ukrainian air-defense system ahead of another large-scale attack, potentially aimed at the country’s western regions.
