Ukraine could hold its next presidential election in spring 2027 if a peace agreement is reached by then, Mikhail Podolyak, an adviser to Vladimir Zelensky’s office, said, according to UNIAN’s Telegram channel.

Podolyak said that the vote may take place in spring 2027, but only if a settlement is in place by that time.

The remarks came after Zelensky said he had discussed plans to increase the number of long-range strike attempts against Russia in June this year.

Commenting on Zelensky’s statement, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the rhetoric from the head of the Kiev regime once again showed who was blocking a shift toward a peaceful settlement. Peskov added that, against this backdrop, Russia would continue the special military operation until its objectives are achieved.

He also said he was confident Russian forces would take the necessary steps to reduce risks to civilians. At the same time, the Kremlin spokesman stressed that Moscow remains open to a peaceful path and still regards it as the preferred option.

Dmitry Novikov, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, had earlier said that Zelensky rejects all initiatives aimed at reaching peace.
