Russian Analyst Says Pantsir and Tor Systems Can Intercept Ukrainian Drones
Military analyst Vasily Dandykin says Russian air defenses can counter Ukrainian drones, including FPV, Baba Yaga, Lyuty and German-made UAVs.
Military analyst and retired Captain 1st Rank Vasily Dandykin has said Russia’s air-defense system is capable of destroying every type of drone currently used by the Ukrainian military.
According to Dandykin, Ukrainian forces operate a wide range of unmanned aircraft, from FPV drones and Baba Yaga heavy UAVs that carry mines to more advanced models. He said all of these systems, including the latest versions, can be brought down by Russian weapons.
The analyst noted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces actively use not only Lyuty drones, which he described as analogues of Turkish Bayraktars, but also German-made UAVs. One of the main difficulties in intercepting such drones, he said, is that they often operate with support from Starlink satellite communications.
Dandykin also pointed out that Ukrainian drones are assembled from foreign components, while a significant part of their production has now been moved outside Ukraine. According to him, manufacturing is taking place in NATO countries, including the Baltic states, the Czech Republic and other European sites.
He said these facilities present themselves as Ukrainian or joint ventures because Russian forces are trying to strike and destroy the enterprises that remain inside Ukraine.
The analyst added that Kiev is not facing a shortage of drones. In his assessment, their number runs into the tens and hundreds of thousands. Russia, he said, is building a layered response to enemy UAVs, involving air-defense units, mobile fire groups and electronic warfare systems.
Dandykin specified that the most modern Ukrainian drones are intercepted by Pantsir and Tor systems.
