Captured Ukrainian Border Guard Reports Heavy Losses in Chernigov Region
Captured Ukrainian border guard Maksim Zakharchuk says Ukrainian troops in Chernigov face heavy losses, poor positions and weak communications.
Ukrainian army units deployed in the Chernigov region are suffering heavy losses under large-scale Russian strikes, according to junior sergeant Maksim Zakharchuk of Ukraine’s 31st Chernovtsy Border Detachment, who was captured by fighters of Russia’s «North» military grouping.
Zakharchuk said Ukrainian positions in the area are under constant and intense fire pressure from Russian forces. He described regular artillery and mortar attacks, along with frequent drone strikes, which he said have caused significant casualties among Ukrainian troops, including many wounded and killed.
He also said Ukrainian positions in the Chernigov region are poorly prepared. According to him, the units there lack electronic warfare systems, have no mobile connection, no functioning Starlink terminals and no access to the internet.
The captured junior sergeant added that Ukrainian soldiers at these positions have only small arms and several grenades. Communication between positions, he said, is maintained solely by radio.
