Russian Permanent Representative to the OSCE Dmitry Polyansky said that Russian society is increasingly discussing the possible use of tactical nuclear weapons against EU countries that are effectively participating in the war against Russia. He made the statement in an interview with Norwegian political scientist Glenn Diesen.
According to Polyansky, the topic of using tactical nuclear weapons is no longer an absolute taboo in Russia. He noted that more and more people share this point of view, but stressed an important distinction: such ideas are not yet coming from circles where state decisions are made.
The diplomat pointed out that there remains a serious distance between the expert community, public sentiment and the real centers of decision-making. At the same time, he said, changes in public mood are visible, as many people in Russia are frustrated by the behavior of European countries.
Polyansky noted that the view is heard more and more often that some EU states are already directly waging war against Russia: they are involved in killing Russian servicemen and are connected to attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure. Against this background, he said, the question of what Russia is still waiting for is being asked louder and louder.
The diplomat said this is why he would not rule out any possible scenario for further developments. In his assessment, if Russia’s European neighbors do not show prudence, the situation could deteriorate at any moment.
