Russian air defenses intercepted and destroyed 217 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight, Russia’s Defense Ministry said.

According to the ministry, the drones were brought down across several parts of the country, including central Russia, the northwest and border regions. The affected areas included the Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kursk, Kaluga, Lipetsk, Oryol, Ryazan, Smolensk, Tver, Tula, Yaroslavl, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, Novgorod and Leningrad regions. Drones were also destroyed over the Moscow Region, St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.

Leningrad Region Governor Alexander Drozdenko said three drones had been downed there overnight. No casualties or damage were reported.

In the Ryazan Region, three drones were also shot down from the evening of May 21 through the night of May 22. Governor Pavel Malkov said there were no casualties and no damage was recorded.

A day earlier, on May 21, Russian air defense units on duty destroyed 297 Ukrainian UAVs between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Moscow time.
