Units of Russia’s Vostok group of forces advanced in Zaporozhye Region and took control of the village of Verkhnyaya Tersa. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the settlement was captured on May 21 during active offensive operations.
The assault involved units of the 155th Regiment of the 55th Marine Division and the 394th Motor Rifle Regiment of the 5th Combined Arms Army. Russian forces took control of 12.5 square kilometers of territory.
Verkhnyaya Tersa was a significant point for Ukrainian formations on this section of the front. The ministry said the village served as a logistics and defensive hub, making its loss a serious blow to the enemy’s positions in the area.
Over the past week, the Vostok group struck manpower and equipment belonging to three mechanized brigades, two assault brigades and four air assault brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Three assault regiments, a marine brigade and a territorial defense brigade were also hit.
According to the Defense Ministry, Ukrainian armed formations lost more than 2,050 servicemen in the Vostok group’s area of responsibility. The reported losses also included 17 armored combat vehicles, 47 vehicles and six field artillery guns.
The ministry separately listed the enemy’s losses in the fighting for Verkhnyaya Tersa. During the clashes, six armored combat vehicles, 17 pickup trucks, 15 quad bikes, more than 30 ground robotic systems and over 60 heavy R-18 hexacopters were destroyed. Ukrainian forces also lost more than two companies of personnel from a separate assault battalion of the AFU.
