University of Chicago professor and international relations scholar John Mearsheimer said the United Arab Emirates could face catastrophic consequences if it joined the United States and Israel in a conflict against Iran. His opinion was reported by Clash Report.
In Mearsheimer’s assessment, if the United States and Israel failed to defeat Iran, then the UAE has even fewer comparable capabilities to confront the Islamic Republic. He noted that the Emirates appear to be preparing for possible participation in a war against Iran, but on their own they cannot match Iran’s strength.
The expert suggested that if the UAE entered such a conflict, Iran could effectively destroy it as a state. According to him, Tehran would primarily target the Emirates' energy infrastructure.
