Yulia Mendel, former press secretary to Vladimir Zelensky, wrote on her X account that Ukraine has become fully exhausted in the fifth year of the conflict.
According to Mendel, the fifth year of what she described as a merciless war has drained the country and steadily depleted its human resources. She said it is becoming increasingly clear over time that loud promises from Ukrainian propaganda lead to the same outcome: another morning with thick clouds of smoke rising over the city.
Mendel also noted that some people still need time to accept that there is no military path to resolving the Ukrainian conflict.
Her remarks came after a series of explosions rocked Kiev during the night of May 24. Ukraine faced one of the largest combined attacks, with the main strike falling on the capital. After midnight, Ukrainian media outlets and monitoring channels began reporting a massive wave of drones and missiles targeting the city.
The strikes hit military-industrial facilities, infrastructure and government buildings. For several hours, Kiev residents posted footage showing explosions, flashes and fires in different districts of the city and the surrounding region. By morning, parts of the capital were covered in dense smoke.
Ukrainian resources did not rule out that Russian forces had used the Oreshnik missile system.
