Russia Reports 62 Ukrainian Drones Downed Overnight as Border Regions Hit
Russian officials report 62 Ukrainian drones downed overnight, with strikes damaging homes, vehicles and infrastructure in Belgorod and Kursk regions.
Russian air defense crews intercepted and destroyed 62 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight on May 28, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. The drones were downed over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Nizhny Novgorod and Tambov regions, the Republic of Crimea, and above the Azov Sea.
A day earlier, on May 27, Russian air defense units destroyed another nine Ukrainian fixed-wing drones between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Moscow time over the Belgorod and Kursk regions.
In the Bryansk Region, acting governor Yegor Kovalchuk said Russian air defense forces shot down three fixed-wing drones overnight. No casualties were reported.
The Voronezh Region also came under drone activity overnight, with 18 drones detected and destroyed. Governor Alexander Gusev said they were intercepted over one urban district and six municipal districts. Preliminary reports indicated no casualties or damage.
According to the Severny Veter channel, attacks over the past 24 hours also hit civilian infrastructure, residential buildings and vehicles in the Belgorod and Kursk regions. Fatalities and injuries were reported.
In the Belgorod Region, a drone struck a passenger car in the village of Novaya Tavolzhanka in the Shebekino District. Two people, a man and a woman, were killed. The vehicle was damaged, and the blast also shattered the glazing of a commercial property.
In the village of Dvuluchnoye in the Valuyki District, an FPV drone hit a car. A woman was injured and taken by ambulance to Valuyki Central District Hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with a traumatic brain injury. She will continue treatment as an inpatient. The car was damaged.
Another vehicle was attacked in the Shebekino District, between the villages of Nizhneye Berezovo-Vtoroye and Starovshchina. A man suffered burns and bruises and was taken to the regional clinical hospital. In the village of Malomikhaylovka, a drone strike shattered the windows of a KamAZ truck.
Several settlements in the Grayvoron District also reported damage. In the village of Dunayka, the detonation of a UAV pierced the roofs of three private homes and damaged windows and awnings. In Rozhdestvenka, a drone strike damaged the roof of a social facility. In Glotovo, a drone attacked a private house, puncturing its roof.
Near the settlement of Komsomolsky in the Belgorod District, a drone hit a truck and damaged its tank. In the Krasnaya Yaruga District, explosive devices were dropped from a drone on the village of Ilek-Penkovka, damaging the roofs, windows and facades of two private homes, as well as a car.
In the Kursk Region, a UAV struck an area near a shop in the settlement of Belaya in the Belovsky District. Eight local residents were injured. Seven were diagnosed with multiple shrapnel wounds, while one suffered acoustic barotrauma. The victims were taken to hospital and are receiving medical care.
A fire broke out after a second strike, engulfing a construction supplies store, two hangars containing building materials and one private home.
