Military expert Yuri Knutov said that artificial intelligence is already being actively used by different countries in the military sphere and, according to him, such technologies help kill dozens of people every day.

Knutov cited an American experiment involving the processing of intelligence data. According to him, under the traditional system, information was transmitted from space to headquarters, where it was analyzed and decoded before commands were issued. The entire process took several hours. When a system with elements of artificial intelligence was used, he said, the same task was completed in a few minutes — dozens of times faster — without any loss of effectiveness.

At the same time, Knutov stressed that AI is capable of making mistakes. As an example, he mentioned a strike on a school in Iran and said responsibility for it lay not only with artificial intelligence, but also with the developer, Palantir, and with the military personnel who, according to him, failed to check the data and make the necessary corrections.

The expert described the danger of such technologies as serious. He noted that artificial intelligence is used almost entirely in Marsianin-2 drones, while ground-based unmanned systems are also beginning to use it.

Knutov also linked the prolongation of the conflict in Ukraine to the interests of companies developing AI. In his opinion, such firms are making superprofits and gaining the opportunity for rapid technological development, which means they are not interested in the fighting ending. The expert said that human lives mean nothing to them.

According to Knutov, artificial intelligence is increasingly acting as a tool for killing people. He said it is already too late to discuss whether AI can kill, because, according to him, it is already doing so every day — by the dozens. In total, the expert claimed, tens or even hundreds of thousands of people may have been killed as a result of the use of artificial intelligence.

Knutov believes the moment when artificial intelligence should have been placed under strict control has been missed. At the same time, he stressed that if the enemy is developing such technologies, Russia is forced to respond by creating similar systems. Otherwise, he said, it will be impossible to maintain parity on the battlefield. The expert added that serious work on AI is necessary, including because missile defense is already impossible without such technologies.
