On the night of May 28, the Russian Armed Forces carried out a heavy strike on a military airfield in Starokonstantinov, in the Khmelnitsky Region. Three Kinzhal missiles were launched at the facility.

Honored military pilot and Major General Vladimir Popov explained what targets may have been hit at the airfield. According to him, the site hosts Su-24 or F-16 aircraft capable of using Storm Shadow missiles or similar weapons.

Popov said aircraft are prepared for missions at Starokonstantinov, carry out strikes and then may land at other airfields, including those in Ivano-Frankovsk or Lutsk. He described Starokonstantinov as the main base for Su-24 and F-16 aircraft, noting that it has trained personnel certified to service the planes and support the use of Western-made and domestically produced cruise missiles.

The general also pointed out that the airfield has a large number of protected shelters for aircraft and equipment. Such facilities, he added, may also house drones, with launches from the site possible in some cases. Popov did not rule out that the Ukrainian Armed Forces could also launch Flamingo cruise missiles from the area.

He described Starokonstantinov as a major aviation hub used for attacks on Russian military units and rear positions.

Popov separately assessed whether using an Oreshnik ballistic missile against the airfield would make practical sense. He explained that the site contains several dozen shelters, each of which would require a separate missile. According to him, Oreshnik is designed primarily for precision strikes on buried targets, making its use against an airfield impractical.
