A KamAZ truck driver was killed on a section of the Novorossiya highway near the border between the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions after the road was remotely mined, Kherson Region Governor Vladimir Saldo said.

According to Saldo, at around 6 a.m. on May 29, a Ukrainian Baba Yaga hexacopter dropped mines onto the roadway and shoulders. One of the explosive devices detonated, killing the truck driver.

Several vehicles carrying apartment blocks for facilities in Genichesk were also damaged. Saldo said the scattered munitions respond to movement, making them a deadly threat to civilian transport.

The affected section of the highway has been closed. Demining teams are working at the scene.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine use UAVs against civilian facilities in Russian regions almost daily. In response, the Russian military carries out strikes with high-precision air-, sea- and ground-based weapons, as well as drones, targeting military facilities and enterprises of Ukraine’s defense industry.
