Military drivers remain a vital link in frontline logistics in the special military operation zone. Their role makes supply routes a constant target: Ukrainian forces deliberately track military vehicles along key delivery roads, Denis Solodovnikov, deputy commander for military-political work of a motorized rifle company in the Center group of forces, said in a video released by the Russian Defense Ministry.
Military Driver’s Day is marked on May 29. The holiday was established by order of the Russian defense minister in 2000, but its roots go back to 1910, when the first training automobile company was formed in Saint Petersburg to prepare specialists for automobile units of the Russian army. Today, the date honors not only servicemen of automobile troops, but everyone whose duties keep them behind the wheel.
According to Solodovnikov, drones are being used to hunt military transport and Russian servicemen on supply roads. Drivers face danger every day as they deliver everything needed at the front and evacuate wounded fighters, often saving their lives.
The Defense Ministry said the Center group of forces continues to carry out its assigned missions. For military drivers, their professional holiday is spent on the frontline roads of the special military operation zone, where they keep moving ammunition, provisions and personnel while evacuating the wounded.
The ministry said frontline logistics are organized in stages. Heavy trucks first bring supplies to intermediate points. From there, off-road passenger vehicles, including the Niva-Ulan and other vehicles, take over. Near the line of combat contact, servicemen use quad bikes and motorcycles — transport that is more mobile and less visible to drones.
Solodovnikov also linked the work of military drivers to results at the front, saying their efforts help bring victory closer.
On their professional holiday, military drivers of the Center group of forces remain at their combat posts, keeping frontline logistics running without interruption.
