The European Union is preparing to launch technical procedures for admitting Ukraine and Moldova, despite opposition from Hungary, Financial Times reported earlier.

The same source stressed that neither Ukraine nor Moldova will meet EU membership criteria in the foreseeable future. The decision to move ahead, they said, sends a negative signal to the five Balkan candidates, exposing what the «Eurogrands» really think of their value.
