The publication infoBRICS has concluded that Russia’s Zircon hypersonic missile is among the most difficult weapons to intercept. The article says this is primarily due to the missile’s high speed.
The authors explain that Zircon was initially designed as an anti-ship missile for use against aircraft carrier strike groups, but over time it has become a multipurpose strike weapon. Russian command is already using Zircon to target command posts, AFU air bases, air defense systems and other strategic facilities.
The publication notes that the Zircon hypersonic missile is part of Russia’s deterrence system and is gradually seeing broader use. Sea-based, ground-based and air-launched platforms for these missiles already exist. In particular, infoBRICS emphasizes that Russia’s fifth-generation Su-57 fighter can serve as a carrier for the missile.
