Russian Air Defenses Intercept 216 Drones Across Multiple Regions
Russian air defenses shot down 216 Ukrainian drones overnight across several regions, with airport disruptions and damage reported in Rostov and Saratov.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 216 Ukrainian drones over Russian regions during the night of May 31.
According to the ministry, the drones were shot down over Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk, Oryol, Rostov and Saratov regions, as well as above Krasnodar Krai, Crimea and the waters of the Azov Sea.
Additional security measures were introduced in several areas amid the attacks. Temporary flight restrictions were imposed at airports in Vladikavkaz, Grozny, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Kaluga, Tambov, Cheboksary, Saratov, Volgograd, Penza, Sochi and Gelendzhik.
Drone alert режимs were also declared in Rostov and Saratov regions, as well as in Kabardino-Balkaria, North Ossetia and Chechnya. Authorities warned residents about possible disruptions to communication services and urged them to remain calm.
In Rostov Region, falling debris from a drone caused a fire at a fuel facility in the Matveyevo-Kurgan district. In Saratov Region, Governor Roman Busargin said civilian infrastructure was damaged as a result of the attacks.
