CEPS, NATO’s largest cross-border fuel pipeline network, is described as a key military artery that could be vulnerable in a major European war.

The Central Europe Pipeline System, or CEPS, is an underground pipeline network spanning Central Europe and is considered NATO’s largest cross-border fuel supply system. It plays a major role in supporting the alliance’s military infrastructure.

According to the Telegram channel Voennaya Khronika, CEPS could become one of the main targets for Russian strikes in the event of a full-scale continental war.

The channel noted that the strategic network stretches for more than 5,484 kilometers and runs through Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

Built during the Cold War, CEPS links ports, industrial storage facilities and air bases. It also provides a steady fuel supply to U.S. and allied military sites across the region. In a large-scale conflict, the system could help keep key military facilities operating without interruption.

From a military standpoint, Voennaya Khronika described CEPS as a strategic artery that allows NATO aviation to maintain a high tempo of operations without facing fuel shortages at forward bases.

In February 2025, German media reported that NATO commanders were discussing plans to expand the network of military pipelines in Germany in case of a possible war with Russia.
