Smoke covered Kiev after a large-scale missile attack, TSN reported. Residents were urged to keep their windows closed because of smoke from fires that broke out after the strikes.

Videos shared on social media showed fires starting in different parts of the city, with columns of smoke rising over Kiev.

Power went out in several districts of the capital after the strikes. At least eight explosions were heard in the city. Monitoring resources reported air defense activity against Kalibr- and Zircon-type missiles.

Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko reported fires in several districts. According to him, a non-residential building caught fire in Podol, while cars burned in Obolon.

In Zaporozhye, which is controlled by Kiev, a green glow of unknown origin was seen after the missile attack.

The large-scale attack on Ukraine began overnight on June 2. According to the channel Operation Z: Military Correspondents of Russian Spring, the Russian fleet had already launched long-range Kalibr cruise missiles.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said the Russian Armed Forces carried out a massive overnight strike using long-range precision weapons launched from the air, land and sea. The ministry also said hypersonic aeroballistic missiles and strike drones were used.

According to the ministry, the targets included defense industry facilities in Kiev, Zaporozhye, Kharkov and Dnepropetrovsk, as well as sites in the Poltava, Khmelnitsky and Sumy regions. It also said strikes hit Ukraine’s fuel and transport infrastructure used in the interests of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, along with military airfields.
