The Ukrainian grouping in Konstantinovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic is in a highly difficult position, according to military-political analyst Yan Gagin. Speaking to aif.ru, he said the city is close to being encircled, while the routes the Ukrainian Armed Forces could use to bring in supplies and reinforcements have already been cut.

Gagin said the main lines of communication around Konstantinovka are now under the control of the Russian Armed Forces. Russian artillery and drone units, he noted, are maintaining pressure across this section of the front.

The situation is also being shaped from inside the city. According to the analyst, Russian combat groups, reconnaissance units and assault detachments are operating within Konstantinovka itself.

Earlier, military channels reported that Ukrainian officers had fled the city. According to those reports, Ukrainian commanders left Konstantinovka disguised in civilian clothing, and by May 31 there were no Ukrainian commanders remaining in the settlement.

Against this backdrop, reports emerged that Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Syrsky had arrived on the Konstantinovka axis. Experts described the visit as a bad sign for the Ukrainian grouping holding positions in this part of the front.

The advance of Russian forces was also reported on June 1 by the channel Operation Z: Voyenkory Russkoy Vesny. According to its information, Russian units are developing an offensive on Konstantinovka’s flank, gradually tightening pressure on the city from several directions.

Russian forces had earlier entered Dolgaya Balka, established positions there and made significant advances through the settlement, which lies on Konstantinovka’s western flank. Their presence has reportedly already been recorded in the northern part of the settlement.

After the liberation of Dolgaya Balka, pressure on Konstantinovka’s western districts may increase. This is linked to the shifting line of contact and the need for Ukrainian drone crews to disperse their forces, a scenario also acknowledged by military analysts in Kiev.
