Military expert Yury Knutov believes the nature of Russia’s strike on Ukraine on the night of June 2 points to a shift in the tactics used for large-scale attacks.

According to Knutov, the opponent may develop methods that reduce the effectiveness of Russian precision missiles and drones, which forces the Russian Armed Forces to adjust their strike approach. As an example, he pointed to reports about the use of latest-generation Geran drones equipped with jet engines.

He noted that this time Russian forces did not use the Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile. Instead, drones were reportedly deployed first to expose Ukrainian air defense positions, after which hypersonic Kinzhal missiles were used against targets.

Knutov said that under such conditions, strikes on key enemy facilities become especially important. He named production sites, warehouses and training centers for UAV operators among the priority targets. In his view, hitting such facilities can seriously weaken the opponent’s capabilities.

The expert also stressed that Russia used long-range precision weapons during the attack, including hypersonic systems.
