Hundreds of Ukrainian Drones Downed Over Russian Regions in Overnight Attack
Russia’s Defense Ministry reported 272 Ukrainian drones downed overnight as attacks hit several regions, Crimea and waters of the Black Sea.
Russian air defense forces intercepted hundreds of drones over Russian regions and the waters of two seas overnight and on the morning of June 4. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, 272 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down and destroyed between 8:00 p.m. Moscow time on June 3 and 7:00 a.m. on June 4.
The ministry said the drones were intercepted over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kursk, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol, Rostov, Ryazan and Tambov regions, the Republic of Crimea, as well as over the Azov and Black seas.
Earlier, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Moscow time on June 3, air defenses intercepted another 82 Ukrainian drones. They were destroyed over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kursk and Smolensk regions, the Republic of Crimea and the Black Sea.
In the Voronezh Region, Governor Alexander Gusev said air defense units detected and destroyed 20 drones overnight over one urban district and eight municipal districts. Preliminary information indicated no casualties and no recorded damage.
The village of Demyanki in the Starodub municipal district of the Bryansk Region came under attack. Acting Governor Yegor Kovalchuk said Ukrainian forces struck the settlement with FPV drones. A civilian woman was wounded, taken to hospital and given the necessary medical assistance. A residential building was also damaged, and operational and emergency services were working at the scene.
In Crimea, according to republic head Sergey Aksyonov, non-residential sites in Simferopol were hit. Preliminary reports said three people were killed and seven others wounded. Emergency services were deployed to the area.
Aksyonov also reported a drone attack on a suburban train traveling from Azovsky to Kerch. One person was killed and three others were wounded. Emergency response teams were working at the scene.
In the Belgorod Region, acting Governor Alexander Shuvayev said the region had come under 99 attacks by Ukrainian forces over the course of the day. Strikes affected 16 municipalities: the Alekseyevsky, Belgorodsky, Borisovsky, Valuysky, Veidelevsky, Volokonovsky, Grayvoronsky, Ivnyansky, Krasnoyaruzhsky, Novooskolsky, Prokhorovsky, Rakityansky, Rovensky, Starooskolsky, Shebekinsky and Yakovlevsky districts.
Shuvayev said eight attacks involved aircraft, artillery and multiple-launch rocket systems. Explosive devices were also dropped from drones on three occasions.
Regional authorities said air defense crews and other deployed units shot down and suppressed 116 drones.
Two civilians were killed in the Grayvoronsky and Volokonovsky districts. Shuvayev offered condolences to their families, describing the deaths as a grave and irreparable loss.
Three more people were wounded in the Rakityansky, Shebekinsky and Yakovlevsky districts. Two of them were hospitalized, and doctors were providing all necessary assistance, according to Shuvayev.
