The capture of Komsomolskoye, known in Ukraine as Gulyaypolskoye, gives Russian forces room to build momentum toward Orekhov, a major fortified stronghold held by Ukrainian troops, military expert Andrey Marochko said.

Russia’s Defense Ministry reported the liberation of Komsomolskoye in Zaporozhye Region on June 4. Marochko described the development as a significant success for the Russian Armed Forces, noting that the village opens a direct route toward Orekhov, which he called the enemy’s key defensive hub in the area.

The advance also increases pressure on Ukrainian forces operating along the Orekhov direction from the eastern flank. According to Marochko, Russian units may now continue moving west of Komsomolskoye.

He also pointed to the area around Malaya Tokmachka, where fighting has continued for a long time. In his assessment, cutting logistics routes near the settlement would seriously complicate the situation for Ukrainian troops.

Marochko linked the loss of Komsomolskoye to failed Ukrainian counterattacks. Ukrainian units had repeatedly tried to break through Russian defensive lines near the village on different sectors, but those attempts did not succeed. He said the assault potential of Ukrainian forces around Komsomolskoye had been exhausted, after which Russian forces moved into a phase of retaliatory action.
