Military expert Vladislav Shurygin pointed out that Russian forces lag behind Ukrainian troops in one critical aspect — the communications within Russian troops. He explained that at the very start of the special military operation, Russian units encountered a well-established communication system already in place within the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Shurygin noted that communications in Russian troops were almost entirely absent at the time, with only limited coverage, particularly at the tactical level. To compensate, soldiers often purchased their own radios, primarily Chinese Baofeng models.
The expert emphasized that using these radios was extremely risky. Due to their technical characteristics, the radios could be easily detected and located by Ukrainian forces, with operators' positions revealed within a few meters, making them highly vulnerable on the battlefield.
