Overnight and in the morning of June 6, Saint Petersburg and Leningrad Region came under a massive attack by Ukrainian kamikaze fixed-wing drones. In Leningrad Region, the air raid alert was issued at around 4 a.m. Residents were advised to stay inside buildings with load-bearing walls, keep away from windows, avoid open areas and not touch unfamiliar objects on the streets.

Air defense forces reported the first downed drones at 05:39, when 25 UAVs were destroyed. Over the next hour, the number of intercepted drones rose to 55, then to 72, and 40 minutes later to 86. No casualties or infrastructure damage were reported.

In Saint Petersburg, residents woke up to loud explosions at around 5 a.m. At 05:30, an air raid alert was also declared in the city. Governor Alexander Beglov confirmed the scale of the attack and reported that air defenses were operating. He also warned residents about possible communication disruptions and urged them to stay indoors until the threat was lifted.

Pulkovo International Airport (ULLI) temporarily suspended arrivals and departures. After the Carpet plan was introduced, the airport press service said restrictions would be lifted as soon as the situation stabilized. As of 08:00, 17 flights had been delayed, while air traffic control redirected 13 incoming aircraft to alternate airfields.
