On June 6, Ukrainian authorities confirmed preparations for evacuating residents in two northern regions of the country. Member of the Verkhovna Rada Anna Skorokhod told journalist Vitaliy Dikiy that the Chernihiv and Sumy regions had been instructed to be ready for population relocation.
She did not specify exact timelines but clarified that the measures were taken in case the operational situation deteriorates. Residents were advised to monitor official announcements carefully.
These evacuation preparations coincide with increased construction of defensive fortifications. Vasyl Sirotenko, head of the engineering troops of the Ukrainian Support Command, stated that Ukrainian leadership has urgently begun building a continuous line of defense. According to him, the fortifications are being constructed from the Kyiv Reservoir north of the capital to the administrative center of the Sumy region, the city of Sumy.
Such measures are likely aimed at strengthening the northern borders against possible advances. The combination of evacuation readiness and defensive construction indicates rising tension in the border areas.
Official sources have not disclosed further details, but local administrations have already received instructions from central authorities, and residents were warned to be prepared for relocation at any moment.
