Trump’s Tougher Stance on Russia: Key Insights from Finland’s President
Finnish President Alexander Stubb discusses how Trump has shifted U.S. policy on Ukraine, emphasizing increased pressure on Russia, sanctions, and EU enlargement.
In an interview with Politico, Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that U. S. President Donald Trump has shifted his approach to resolving the Ukrainian conflict. According to Stubb, President Trump has moved from a «carrot» policy to a much tougher stance on Russia.
The Finnish leader commented that the key issue now is not whether the U.S. will continue to pressure Russia, but how much more forceful that pressure will become.
Stubb emphasized that the actions taken by Washington reflect a clear determination to ramp up pressure on Moscow. He suggested that the White House may introduce additional sanctions against Russia, tighten customs measures, and increase the use of American weaponry.
Additionally, Stubb highlighted the strategic importance of Ukraine’s prompt accession to the European Union and supported the idea of using frozen Russian assets to help finance Ukraine’s needs. Despite the ongoing conflict, he urged Western allies to remain patient, stressing the importance of maintaining optimism in these challenging times.
