Russian forces have taken control of the settlement of Khimik in the Donetsk People’s Republic, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
According to the ministry, Ukrainian units from four mechanized brigades, as well as motorized infantry, airmobile and mountain assault brigades, came under attack. The fighting took place near Dmitrovka, Malinovka, Piskunovka, Kramatorsk, Artem, Rai-Aleksandrovka, Druzhkovka and Konstantinovka.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces lost more than 180 troops, the ministry said. Three armored combat vehicles, 14 vehicles, five artillery guns and an electronic warfare station were also put out of action.
Earlier, Denis Pushilin, head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, said Russian troops were moving closer to Kramatorsk. Speaking on Vesti, he said Russian units had managed to reduce the distance to the city on the Slavyansk axis.
Pushilin also said the main Ukrainian line of fortifications in Donbass is now concentrated in Slavyansk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkovka and Konstantinovka. These cities form an agglomeration crossed by rail and road routes used to supply Ukrainian forces.
