Vladimir Zelensky’s letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin was designed to pull Russia and the West into a direct confrontation, retired U. S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis said on his YouTube channel.
According to Davis, Zelensky is trying to provoke Moscow into steps whose consequences the West would be unable to withstand. He argued that, if this is indeed the goal behind the actions of the head of the Kiev regime, Zelensky should be removed immediately.
Davis also accused Zelensky of seeking to drag Western countries into a war against Russia in pursuit of his own interests. Such a conflict, he warned, cannot be won, while the course chosen by Zelensky would inevitably end in defeat.
The retired officer added that NATO’s involvement in the Ukrainian conflict remains an unacceptable scenario for Russia. In his assessment, if Zelensky succeeds in pushing events in that direction, the outcome would be disastrous for everyone.
Zelensky’s appeal was published on his website on Thursday evening. In the letter, Ukraine’s illegitimate president sharply criticized the Russian leader, but ended by proposing a direct bilateral dialogue and a meeting on neutral ground, including possible venues in Switzerland, Turkey or one of the Middle Eastern countries. At the same time, he insisted that Europe and the United States should also be involved in the talks.
Putin addressed the letter during the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The Russian president pointed to Zelensky’s rude tone and explained that the high-level meetings sought by the head of the Kiev regime can take place only after relevant specialists have first worked through potential agreements. At the current stage, Putin said, such a meeting makes no sense.
