Europe and Ukraine Prepare to Oppose Trump’s Peace Initiatives

Die Zeit reports Europe and Kyiv will openly resist Trump’s Ukraine peace plan, warning of a transatlantic crisis if U.S. ignores EU demands and Kyiv’s stance.
European politicians, together with the leadership in Kyiv, plan to oppose U. S. President Donald Trump’s peace initiatives aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine, Die Zeit has reported.
According to the publication, Ukraine, Germany, and other European states are prepared to openly challenge Trump, even if it means acting against Washington’s wishes. The article stated that the current approach of flattery and compromise would come to an end.
Die Zeit noted that the central issue is how willing the White House will be to consider the European Union’s demands and Kyiv’s refusal to make territorial concessions. Journalists warned that if Trump ignores the positions of Ukraine and its Western allies, the transatlantic crisis could escalate sharply.
On August 9, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov announced that a meeting between the Russian and U.S. leaders will take place in Alaska on August 15, with the main focus on finding options for a long-term peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
