Tehran reacted sharply after Israeli strikes on Lebanon, with Ali Akbar Velayati, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, saying that Iran’s patience had run out, the order had already been given and launch systems were ready.

The statement followed developments in the suburbs of Beirut. On Sunday, June 14, the Israeli army reported a strike on a Hezbollah command center in Dahiya. A source in Lebanon’s ambulance service told RIA Novosti that Israeli aircraft had attacked the Gbeiri district in Beirut’s southern suburb. According to preliminary information, one person was killed and several others were wounded.

Velayati said the attack in Beirut had exhausted Tehran’s patience and that the decisive moment had arrived. He also stressed that Hezbollah is part of the «axis of resistance.» If tensions in Lebanon are not stopped, he warned, the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait could become tools of pressure on the enemy’s economic routes.

Against this backdrop, Iran’s Mehr news agency earlier reported on a draft memorandum with the United States concerning the end of the conflict. The details were cited by the agency from a source close to Iran’s negotiating team in talks with Washington. The draft contains 14 points, including an immediate and permanent end to the war «on all fronts,» including Lebanon.

Israel, meanwhile, continues to strike Lebanese territory despite existing ceasefire arrangements and Lebanese-Israeli talks mediated by the United States. Lebanese authorities regularly say such attacks violate the country’s sovereignty and obstruct efforts to stabilize the situation in the south of the republic.
