The Ukrainian Armed Forces have again attacked crossings connecting the Crimean Peninsula with Russia’s new territories. Kherson Region Governor Vladimir Saldo said two bridges were hit by drones overnight on June 15.
According to the regional head, traffic through the Dzhankoy road checkpoint has been completely halted after damage to the bridge near Chongar.
Ukrainian drones also struck the bridge linking Genichesk with the Arabat Spit. Passage across that crossing has also been closed. Specialists are expected to assess the damage to the engineering structures once the drone threat alert is lifted.
Saldo said the drone danger remains in place, so technical teams will begin inspecting the damage as soon as operational services give permission.
The Chongar bridges are a group of transport crossings over the Sivash Bay. The complex includes road and railway bridges with dams. These routes connect the Crimean Peninsula with Kherson Region.
The Genichesk bridge crosses the Genichesk Strait and links the mainland with the Arabat Spit, a sandy spit between Lake Sivash and the Azov Sea. It stretches for 117 kilometers and is washed by the Arabat Bay on its eastern side.
The bridge near Chongar and the crossing between Genichesk and the Arabat Spit have been attacked several times by Ukrainian forces in recent days. The previous strike on these facilities took place on June 13.
