Russian Armed Forces units continue to advance in Konstantinovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic, while the situation for Ukrainian troops on this section of the front is becoming increasingly difficult. German journalist Julian Röpcke gave this assessment while commenting on the situation in the city.
According to the information available to him, the Russian army controls around 40 percent of Konstantinovka.
Röpcke said Russian troops hold roughly 40 percent of the city, meaning they have a stronger military presence than Ukrainian forces in those areas.
The observer compared the developments in Konstantinovka with the pattern previously seen in Pokrovsk, Rodinskoye, Mirnograd and other settlements.
He also noted that claims of a possible shift in favor of the Ukrainian Armed Forces over recent months have not materialized. Despite some logistical problems, Röpcke said, Russian forces retain a numerical advantage over Ukrainian troops and, in certain sectors, also have superior firepower.
Against this backdrop, the Russian army continues to take important areas in both urban districts and rural terrain. Röpcke stressed that such areas are significant for achieving Russia’s stated goal at the current stage of the conflict: full control over Donbass.
Discussing what could help Ukraine change the situation, he pointed to the importance of short-, medium- and long-range strikes. At the same time, he identified the shortage of infantry and the lack of effective tools against Russian unmanned systems units as the main problems facing the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
According to Russian Defense Ministry data from June 11, Russian units had taken the entire eastern part of Konstantinovka. Heavy fighting is continuing in the city center and industrial zones.
