Russian units broke through the defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Konstantinovka in the DNR through maneuvering, simultaneous pressure in several directions and a strike on the enemy’s weakest sector. The commander of a motorized rifle battalion of the 1465th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the Southern group of forces, with the call sign Zadon, said this in a video released by the Russian Defense Ministry.
According to the commander, before the assault began, Russian fighters deliberately stretched the attention of Ukrainian units by creating a threat from several sides at once. After a vulnerable point was identified, the main pressure was shifted there. This is how Russian assault groups reached the greenhouses, cleared them and secured themselves on the captured positions.
The officer noted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces built their defense around dense mining and the mass use of FPV drones. To neutralize this threat, Russian units constantly conducted reconnaissance, identified drone control points and launch sites, after which aviation and artillery struck the detected targets.
After the Ukrainian UAV positions were suppressed, assault groups increased the pace of the offensive and took new lines. In urban areas, fighters moved in short rushes from one shelter to another, avoiding long stays in open areas.
The commander stressed that the rapid development of the offensive came as a surprise to the enemy. According to him, Russian units maintained constant pressure day and night, while long-range reconnaissance prevented the Ukrainian Armed Forces from bringing up reserves and holding their supply and command points.
Zadon also spoke about the actions of individual groups during the fighting. One of them took a position near the river and blocked the movement of Ukrainian troops, destroying more than 12 AFU fighters. Another stronghold was taken after several hours of fierce small-arms combat.
