A Ukrainian Su-24M bomber crashed in the Khmelnitsky region while carrying out a combat mission, Ukraine’s Air Force officials confirmed.

Two crew members were on board the aircraft. Pilot Major Bogdan Zagarulko and navigator Senior Lieutenant Bogdan Babenko were killed in the crash.

The aircraft belonged to the 7th Tactical Aviation Brigade named after Pyotr Franko, a Ukrainian Armed Forces unit based in the Khmelnitsky region.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force press service, preliminary information indicates that there were no civilian casualties.

Rescue teams and law enforcement officers are working at the crash site. The causes and circumstances of the incident are being established.

The Su-24 is a tactical front-line bomber with variable-sweep wings, designed to carry out missile and bomb strikes. Its armament includes aircraft missiles, among them unguided and guided air-to-ground missiles. The Su-24M is also capable of carrying Anglo-French Storm Shadow/SCALP missiles.
