Ukraine may receive new long-range weapons from Western countries following the G7 summit, including Taurus, SCALP and ATACMS missiles, military expert and air defense historian Yuri Knutov told NEWS.ru.
According to Knutov, the package could also include British Storm Shadow cruise missiles with an extended range. He said newer versions of the missile may be able to strike targets at distances of up to about 500 kilometers.
Taurus missiles have not yet been used in Ukraine, Knutov noted, but he said their deployment remains possible because Kiev has suitable aircraft to carry them, including French Mirage jets and American F-16 fighters.
The expert also said further deliveries of ATACMS remain likely. In his view, even though Kiev has announced its own FP-7 missile, described as a Ukrainian analogue of ATACMS, Ukraine is unlikely to give up American systems.
Knutov also suggested that Vladimir Zelensky may have used the G7 summit to seek support for obtaining components for the FP-9 missile. He described such efforts as a sign of further escalation in the conflict.
Against this backdrop, Knutov added, Kiev also raised the issue of potentially intensifying attacks on Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
