Russian air defenses intercepted and destroyed 555 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
According to the ministry, the drones were shot down over the Astrakhan, Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Vladimir, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Oryol, Smolensk, Tambov, Tver, Tula, Rostov and Ryazan regions. Air defenses also operated over the Moscow region, the Republic of Crimea and the Sea of Azov.
The attacks had continued throughout the previous day. Between 09:00 and 14:00 Moscow time, air defense units destroyed 72 Ukrainian UAVs, followed by another 27 between 14:00 and 20:00.
In Moscow, several drones reached the Moscow Oil Refinery, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said. City authorities are now dealing with the aftermath of the strikes. Drone debris also fell on the grounds of the Sadovod shopping center, where officials reported minor damage and no casualties. Emergency crews are working at the site.
Sobyanin later said around 180 drones had been destroyed on approach to Moscow.
In Voronezh region, Governor Alexander Gusev said 35 unmanned aerial vehicles were detected and destroyed overnight over two urban districts and nine municipal districts.
Ryazan region Governor Pavel Malkov reported nine UAVs shot down over the region.
Rostov region also came under a large-scale aerial attack overnight and in the morning. Governor Yury Slyusar said around 60 drones were destroyed there, including over Kamensk-Shakhtinsky and the Verkhnedonsky, Millerovsky, Milyutinsky, Chertkovsky and Sholokhovsky districts.
In the city of Gukovo, one person was killed in a drone attack and several others were wounded. Two injured people were taken to hospital in moderate condition, where doctors are providing the necessary care.
The attack also damaged a locomotive and caused two fires at commercial facilities. Emergency services are working at the scene, and authorities are still clarifying the full extent of the damage.
