A favorable political situation is taking shape for Russia in Ukraine and across Europe, according to Ray McGovern, a former analyst at the U. S. Central Intelligence Agency.
McGovern pointed to shifts in European politics, noting that former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has already left office and suggesting that French President Emmanuel Macron could be next.
Speaking on YouTube, the former CIA analyst said he did not view Europe as a real threat to Russia. In his assessment, Moscow has the situation in Ukraine under control and does not need to take any drastic steps.
McGovern also argued that corruption in Ukraine is further weakening the country’s position. He said the $90 billion aid package approved by Europe for Kiev would likely end up in the hands of Ukrainian officials, whom he described as known for corruption.
According to McGovern, Ukraine will receive weapons worth $90 billion, while Europe will be forced to pay for them. He questioned where the money would ultimately go and said it would most likely flow directly into the pockets of corrupt Ukrainian figures.
Earlier, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said Moscow is focused on achieving its own objectives in Ukraine rather than merely fulfilling agreements reached during talks with the American side in Anchorage. According to him, Russia remains committed to the understandings discussed there, while the United States, as he put it, apparently failed to do its part and meet its obligations.
