US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said on his X account that the United States has carried out the first test of the Golden Dome missile defence system.

According to the Pentagon chief, the test used advanced directed-energy technologies. The system autonomously detected and destroyed incoming targets, including drones and cruise missiles. Hegseth said all targets were hit and that the trial was completed on schedule.

He also noted that he personally observed the test and watched the military work with next-generation technologies. Hegseth said the new missile defence system would allow the defence department to protect the United States more powerfully than ever before.

The Golden Dome is a multi-layered missile defence system designed to protect the continental United States from various types of threats. It is intended to intercept nuclear warheads, as well as cruise, ballistic and hypersonic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
