Russian forces should use Kinzhal and Iskander missiles to increase the effectiveness of strikes on most facilities in Ukraine’s fuel and energy sector, according to military analyst and air defense forces historian Yury Knutov.
Knutov said the result would be stronger if not one but two missiles were used against a target. In his view, the first would be needed to break through the protection, while the second would strike the facility itself.
The analyst noted that passive defenses installed around Ukrainian energy sites create an additional obstacle for Russian attacks. He said many substations are covered with so-called «mangals» — metal mesh structures stretched between nearby poles.
According to Knutov, these barriers are designed to protect substations from attack drones. In some cases, he added, concrete walls are built around energy facilities, with metal mesh placed above them.
Earlier, Russian State Duma deputy Andrey Gurulev urged the Russian command to revise its tactics and strategy in the special military operation zone. He argued that the main focus should be placed on striking the opponent’s logistics infrastructure, including bridges, railway junctions, depots, stations and ports.
